Does your team struggle to accomplish its goals? Do you find yourself getting frustrated with your team member’s lack of energy or lack of effectiveness?

The truth is, a more effective team isn’t really about the team members, it really starts with the leader. Your team may be your employees, or it may be your department or direct reports, but whoever they are, if you want better results, you have to step up and be a better leader.

This sounds pretty harsh…

You may be thinking “How dare they insinuate I’m not a good leader, they don’t know the people I have to deal with every day?” If you are thinking that, just stay with us for a moment. Feel Valued: 3 Ways to Help Your Employees

business growth Jul 13, 2018

It’s a fact of life that when people feel valued, respected or trusted, they will work much harder toward a goal or on a project. If your employees have seemed less motivated lately, it may be that you need to do more to make sure they feel valued. Here are a few ways you can do that:

Communicate when they have done something well

This one seems obvious, but it’s often so overlooked. It’s easy to remember to give constructive criticism when something doesn’t go well or there is a problem with an employee. But how often do you go out of your way to thank an employee when they have done something well, or reward them when they really knock it out of the park. People almost universally like to feel appreciated, this goes for your employees too. Write them thank you notes, take them out to lunch, leave a small gift or reward for them to show that you see their hard work, and appreciate it.

Help them set goals for themselves

When you coach your employees for their...

business growth Jul 06, 2018

No Clarity = No Change

If your 2018 goals are growth-oriented then reaching them is going to be all about change and as you know, where there is no clarity, there won’t be any change. After all if you don’t know where you are going or how you will get there, how can you expect to reach your destination? It may seem like enough clarity that you have a written business plan, or even action steps for the year. But those types of intentions don’t get to the root of the changes you may need to make personally in order to reach your goals.

The following list is inspired by Brendon Burchard’s teachings on gaining clarity in his book “High Performance Habits”:

List the personal changes you need to make

Maybe its that you need to develop discipline in a certain area of your life, maybe it is that you need to start focusing on the positive side of things, or maybe you want to make healthier choices for your eating an exercise. Whatever your list is, write...

IDEAL Client: Identify Them So You Can Work With More

business growth Jun 29, 2018

We’ve all got them, the clients that you dread getting calls from. Maybe they are really needy or demanding. Maybe they don’t see the value in your product and are always arguing about pricing. Regardless I’m sure when you read that one or two clients immediately came to mind. On the flip side, I’d be willing to bet that you have an ideal client, maybe even several, that seem to just “GET’ what you are trying to to do. They work with you instead of against you, and who really see the value in your offering, and maybe are even a good referral source for you.

Get dream clients and lose those Nightmare ones

It may be easier than you think, but the first step is intentionality. Make a list of the best clients you have that you absolutely love working with and serving. Write down all of their characteristics individually and then look for commonalities. Think about things like typical demographics (age, gender, location, income level, hobbies...

Are You Playing to WIN?

business growth Jun 15, 2018

“Whether you think you can, or you can’t-you’re right” -Henry Ford

Pause a moment and let that sink in. Do you live your life in a way that reflects your belief that you WILL reach your goals? Or do you move through life with the nagging fear that your goals are just out of reach?

Playing not to Lose

Many business owners run their business as if they are simply trying not to lose. They operate out of their fear of failure, and it at times is stronger than their desire to win. They avoid taking risks and they stay in their comfort zone. Does this sound like you? Do you give lip service to your goals, but when it comes down to it, never change your habits or behavior. Running your business this way, and running your life this way, does not ultimately lead to success in the long term, even if it feels safe in the short term. Ultimately, playing not to lose leads to burn out, frustration, and apathy toward the things you were once passionate about.

business growth May 25, 2018

-Will Durant, The Story of Philosophy (1926)
